What Is Buccal Fat Removal?
Buccal fat removal is an aesthetic procedure that gives the face a slimmer, more defined and proportional appearance by partially removing the Bichat fat pads inside the cheek. As it is performed from inside the mouth, no scar is left on the skin.
In which cases is it preferred?
- Slimming a round-looking face
- To accentuate the cheekbones and jawline
- Improving facial proportions and boosting self-confidence
Procedure and recovery
It is performed through a ~1 cm intraoral incision under local anesthesia (usually with sedation) in about ~30 minutes. Same-day discharge; swelling during the first few days is normal, and the final result becomes apparent in 3–6 months.
The removed fat does not return; however, significant weight gain and aging may affect the appearance over the long term.
