Clinic Care or Home Care?

SkincareOp. Dr. Yasemin Aydınlı·5 min read

When it comes to skincare, two things come to mind: the daily routine we follow at home and the professional care done in a clinic. The two are often confused; yet they serve different purposes, and the best result usually comes from using both in balance.

What does home skincare provide?

Home care is for the daily protection and continuity of the skin: cleansing, moisturising and sun protection. Applied regularly, it supports the skin barrier and helps maintain the effect of professional procedures. Its advantage is that it is accessible, affordable and sustainable; its limit is that it usually stays at a surface level.

What does in-clinic medical skincare provide?

Care in the clinic begins with a skin assessment: skin type, needs and any problems are identified. Then more personalised, more controlled and more effective methods can be applied. The difference here is both the professional assessment and treatment options not available at home. These procedures are planned and carried out under the supervision of a specialist.

Key differences

Can one replace the other?

No. Home care does not replace clinical care; and clinical care does not make home care unnecessary. The two complement each other: a step taken in the clinic is maintained with the right routine at home. Relying on only one is often incomplete.

What to consider before and after clinical care?

Before the procedure, it is important to have the skin assessed and to mention any active issues (such as active acne, sunburn or allergies). Afterwards, following the sun protection and gentle routine recommended by your doctor is necessary to maintain the result. It is also important to keep expectations realistic and to know that the process varies from person to person.

Frequently Asked Questions

If I have a good home routine, do I still need clinical care?

Home care is important and provides continuity; but clinical care offers professional assessment and treatments not available at home. Depending on the need, the two are planned together.

How often is clinical skincare done?

The frequency depends on skin type, needs and the method used; the exact interval is determined by a personal assessment.

Is the effect of clinical care permanent?

Maintaining the results largely depends on the home routine and sun protection. If care is not continued, the effect can diminish over time.

I have sensitive skin — is clinical care suitable?

For sensitive skin, it is important to have an assessment first and to choose the method accordingly. Suitability is determined individually.
