What Is Fat Injection?
Fat injection is the injection of fat tissue taken from the patient's own body, purified by special techniques, into areas that have lost volume, chiefly the face. Because the person's own tissue is used, no allergic reaction is expected. As with every procedure, the possible risks are discussed in detail at the examination.
In which cases is it preferred?
- Correcting age-related hollows and volume loss (cheeks, cheekbones, under-eyes)
- Improving the quality, radiance and elasticity of the skin
- Correcting contour irregularities after trauma/surgery
Procedure and recovery
Small areas such as the face can be treated under local anesthesia/sedation. Fat is harvested via liposuction, purified, and injected in multiple layers. A few days of swelling/bruising is normal; results settle within 3–6 months, with part of the effect being permanent.
The fat that takes is permanent; a portion is naturally absorbed. Quitting smoking improves retention.
