What Is a Breast Lift?
A breast lift is a surgical procedure known in medicine as mastopexy. By correcting the sagging of the breasts, it provides a younger and more uplifted appearance. During the procedure, excess skin is removed, the breast tissue is reshaped and the nipple is repositioned higher. While it is performed without an implant in patients with sufficient tissue, it can be combined with an implant when volume is inadequate.
In which cases is it preferred?
- Aesthetic appearance: gives the breast a lifted, rounded and youthful shape.
- Body proportion: brings the breast into harmony with the overall body contours.
- Choice of clothing: increases comfort and the range of options in dressing.
- Self-confidence: by improving body image it helps you feel better about yourself.
The surgical process
- Consultation: the degree of sagging and your expectations are assessed in detail and the need for an implant is determined.
- Preparation: blood tests and imaging are carried out (ultrasound under 40, mammography over 40).
- Surgery: under general anaesthesia, the breast is lifted in a procedure lasting on average 2–3 hours.
- Recovery: support is provided with a surgical bra; the final shape settles within a few months.
No. If there is sufficient breast tissue, it is done without implants; an implant combination is recommended only if volume is also desired.
The incision pattern is planned according to the degree of sagging; the scars fade over time and are positioned so they can be concealed by clothing.
It is usually recommended after the last childbirth and the breastfeeding period are completed; this is ideal for the durability of the result.
